2010 Sauternes update and the effect of oak on Sauternes

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

I am in Sauternes today having just got back from America to a very dry Bordeaux – some more wine videos will follow over the next few days.

Before I report more fully on the 2010 vintage I thought I’d do a little piece on the effect of oak on Sauternes.

This is a question we get asked about often so here I taste four wines ranging from a humble, but very good generic Sauternes which has been made entirely in stainless steel tanks to some Chateau d’Yquem which is the only chateau that consistently uses 100% new oak casks.  Bill Blatch
