Bill Blatch v Keith Floyd?

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

Some people have commented that Bill’s videos remind them of the late, great TV chef Keith Floyd! Both Bill and I, like millions of others, certainly enjoyed his eccentric, occasionally shambolic presentation style and Bill always seems to have a glass of wine on hand when he’s cooking. Take a look at Floyd on Sauternes below and let us know what you think:

I’ll say one thing – he had impeccable taste! Are there are any current TV chefs out there who would like to champion the Sauternes cause? Steve Webb & Bill Blatch

2010 Sauternes at Suduiraut,
Filhot and Lafaurie-Peyraguey

The good news is that the 2010 Sauternes vintage looks every bit as exciting, but different, to the exceptional 2009.  The videos below were shot just before New Year in the vineyards of Chateau Suduiraut and in the cellars of Chateau Filhot with owner Gabriel de Vaucelles and Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey with manager Eric Larramona.  I had intended to taste a few wines just to see how they were coming along but it had been cold for so long (an unheard of 16 days of frost during December) that the exercise was pointless.  I will return in a couple of weeks time to see how they are getting along.  What I did capture were some fascinating opinions and comparisons between what are shaping up to be two great Sauternes vintages.
