Chateau Sigalas-Rabaud 2009 En Primeur Sauternes
Chateau Sigalas-Rabaud – First Growth Sauternes
Bill Blatch: Freshly racked and fully blended, this wine is currently showing more of its sheer opulence and less of its fresh, fine, almost Riesling fruit that was pouring out of it before that.
While we are waiting, we can notice the good acidity that nicely balances the richness (137 g/l residual), and catch the hints of all those very fresh tones that will now slowly reappear. Probably a great Sigalas.
Wine Advocate – 95-97 Points: The Sigalas-Rabaud has a well defined nose: grapefruit, nectarine, honey and lime, much more primal than some of the other 2009s. The palate is very well balanced with excellent acidity: apricot, honeysuckle, a touch of orange zest and then vibrant white peach bursting across the finish with lime flower and lemongrass on the aftertaste. Wonderful persistency, power and freshness. Without question: the 2009 is the best Sigalas-Rabaud that I have tasted and this nectar comes highly recommended.
Wine Spectator – Score 92-95 Points: Vanilla spice and honey aromas follow through to a very sweet, full-bodied palate, with a spicy and fruity finish.
Decanter –18.5 Points : An absolute classical Haut-Bommes wine, with wonderful and refined apricot aromas, silky texture, perfect ‘roasted berries’ sensation, great length, great future.
Jancis Robinson – 17.5 Points: Green hint in the gold. Round, fat and inexpressive. Very forward and evolved. Truly sticky and lovely. Thick. Some chew and acidity too. Drink 2015-2030
