Chateau Coutet 2005

Chateau Coutet – First Growth Barsac

Chateau Coutet, BarsacBill Blatch: When en primeur, I always found this wine to be uncharacteristically sweet and heavy. The cellar-master assured me this was not the case, and it just needed time…and you know something? He was right. All the usual incisive, citrus character that seemed to be missing and that we associate with this estate’s wines, has started to peep through the richness and the wine is settling down into a long ageing process that will surely take it to the top of the scale of excellent vintages of Coutet. You can drink it now but I would recommend keeping it for a bit if you can.
