Valentine’s Day Sauternes
Someone’s Sweet on You!

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

I’ve always found Sauternes romantic – both the place and certainly the wines!  With such a high percentage of female wine makers and proprietors (Sandrine Garbay at d’Yquem, Bérénice Lurton at Climens, Aline Baly at Coutet, Martine Langlais-Pauly at Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Laure de Lambert des Granges at Sigalas-Rabaud, Marie-Pierre Lacoste at La Clotte-Cazalis to name a few) it is obvious that ‘Ladies Love Sauternes’ making it the perfect Valentine’s Day gift.

We have selected 3 half bottles which we can send to your loved one with the message ‘Someone’s Sweet on You!‘  Here’s a quick video about the wines and a link to our online shop where they can be ordered.  Bill Blatch

Chateau de Fargues, Sauternes – Verticle Tasting

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

A stunning 17 vintages of Chateau de Fargues, one of the very best Sauternes wines, are covered in the two videos below. The Sauternes go back to 1983 and including the great 1988, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005 and 2009 vintages.

My thanks go to Compte Alexandre de Lur-Saluces, owner of Chateau de Fargues, for allowing us to film this exceptional tasting and to Charles Taylor MW, who is writing a book on Bordeaux and for whom this tasting was organised.  As always thanks too to Max Amiraut, the cellarmaster at de Fargues, and his assistant Corinne.  Enjoy!  Bill Blatch

The smile on my face says it all! I have never tasted anything like this before – the 2009 Sauternes and Barsac First Growths are consistently brilliant. In this first of two videos I give my first impressions of Coutet, de Fargues, de Rayne Vigneau, Guiraud, Lafaurie-Peyraguey and La Tour Blanche – if you watch one video then this should be the one!

I’ve promised Steve that my full tasting notes will be written up very soon so don’t forget to sign up at the top right hand corner of the page if you haven’t already and would like to have them. Bill Blatch

2009 Sauternes Report 2 – February 2010

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I’m trying not to look cold (it was a bit early in the morning) as I make this video for you and report on another days tasting of the 2009 Sauternes vintage.

We visited Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Château d’Yquem, Château de Fargues, Château Guiraud, Château Raymond-Lafon and Château Sigalas-Rabaud. There are some fantastic wines emerging, and some very different styles, it’s exciting stuff.

I also tasted a wine that brought tears to my eyes and when you taste as much as I do, it doesn’t happen often. Watch the video to find out which one it was.
