Our first visit to Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey to taste the excellent 2009 Sauternes vintage with Eric Larramona.  This video highlights just how difficult it is at this early stage to compare the different wines of Sauternes.  While his neighbours at Chateau Rayne-Vigneau have finished blending their wine in January, Eric’s lots are still in barrel and still on the lees – racking won’t begin until June!

Incidently both wines scored 97 points with The Wine Enthusiast Magazine so there is more than one way to make good Sauternes – ‘Vive la Difference!’  Bill Blatch

The smile on my face says it all! I have never tasted anything like this before – the 2009 Sauternes and Barsac First Growths are consistently brilliant. A rare glimpse behind the scenes at the first 2009 Bordeaux trade tasting including the fabulous Sauternes and Barsac wines. All the courtiers and négociants gather to get their first impressions of the vintage and what might be good wines for them to buy and sell on to the world wine trade.

2009 Sauternes and Barsac wines featured include Château Coutet, Château Filhot, Château Guiraud, Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Château Lamothe-Guignard, Château Rieussec, Château Suduiraut and Château La Tour-Blanche. Bill Blatch
